Dialektika narasi teologis: Polarisasi gereja di era digital

Abstract

The development of digital technology has had a significant impact on the life of the church, especially in the field of theological communication. Digital media such as YouTube, TikTok, and other social media platforms have created a new arena for the dissemination of theological narratives that are fast, broad, and unfiltered. This situation opens up great opportunities for evangelism and faith building, but at the same time poses a serious challenge in the form of polarization in the body of the church. This article analyzes the phenomenon of theological narrative warfare emerging in the digital age, focusing on three main patterns of polarization: doctrinal, socio-political, and generational. Through a descriptive-analytical qualitative approach and discourse analysis, this study explores how social media algorithms and echo chambers reinforce internal church conflicts. The results show that digital polarization leads to church divisions, declining trust in church leaders, and fragmentation of the body of Christ, which ultimately weakens the church's witness to the world. This article offers theological reflections and practical strategies for managing digital conflicts, so that digital media is not only an arena for ideological battles, but also a means of strengthening the unity and mission of the church in the era of the digital revolution

Perkembangan teknologi digital telah membawa dampak signifikan terhadap kehidupan gereja, khususnya dalam bidang komunikasi teologis. Media digital seperti YouTube, TikTok, dan platform media sosial lainnya telah menciptakan arena baru bagi penyebaran narasi teologis yang bersifat cepat, luas, dan tidak terfilter. Situasi ini membuka peluang besar bagi penginjilan dan pembinaan iman, namun sekaligus memunculkan tantangan serius berupa polarisasi di tubuh gereja. Artikel ini menganalisis fenomena perang narasi teologis yang muncul di era digital, dengan fokus pada tiga pola utama polarisasi: doktrinal, sosial-politik, dan generasi. Melalui pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif-analitis dan analisis wacana, penelitian ini mengeksplorasi bagaimana algoritma media sosial dan ruang gema (echo chamber) memperkuat konflik internal gereja. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa polarisasi digital menyebabkan perpecahan jemaat, menurunnya kepercayaan terhadap pemimpin gereja, dan fragmentasi tubuh Kristus, yang pada akhirnya melemahkan kesaksian gereja di hadapan dunia. Artikel ini menawarkan refleksi teologis dan strategi praktis untuk mengelola konflik digital, agar media digital tidak hanya menjadi arena pertarungan ideologi, tetapi juga sarana memperkuat persatuan dan misi gereja di era revolusi digital.
